Wilfred J. Jung Distinguished
The Wilfred J. Jung Distinguished Service Medal is presented to a GWA Allied Trade member that, as a company, has promoted gardening in North America, helped expand the profession of garden communications and has supported the overall objectives of the Garden Writers Association and its membership. Candidates are nominated by the membership, recommended by the Honors Committee and elected by the Board of Directors.
St. Lynn's Press
St. Lynns Press started in 2005 with a commitment to help make people’s lives a little simpler, more creative, better informed – and more in tune with the rhythms of nature. Publisher Paul Kelly was already a veteran of the publishing industry, from the very small to the very large. He had a long-held dream of creating an independent publishing house in which collaboration with authors in the spirit of service and mutual good would be the daily reality.
In the early years, Pittsburgh-based St. Lynn’s published a wide range of titles, from body-mind-spirit to enlightened business to all things “green.” Since 2010, St. Lynn’s has published, almost exclusively, books on organic gardening, sustainable living, local and “slow” lifestyles, and self reliance. All of their books are printed on recycled or FSC-certified paper, using non-petroleum (veggie or soy-based) inks.
Distribution is vital to the success of any independent publishing house. In 2007, St. Lynn’s joined Ingram Publisher Services, a subsidiary of Ingram Content Group, the largest book distributor in the world. St. Lynn’s books are sold in all of the major book chains, independent booksellers, garden centers, botanic gardens and other garden-and-environment-oriented businesses in the U.S. and Canada – and in over 50 countries through the internet.
St. Lynn’s has published garden books by more than 30 GWA members. From Publisher Paul Kelly: ‘We have been privileged to partner with some of the most knowledgeable, entertaining authors and photographers out there – an extraordinary group of people who care deeply about communicating their passion through the written and visual media. Looking forward, we can see an ever-brighter future for garden communicators. The world needs their skill and insight, and their life-affirming perspective.”
