Below is a schedule and preview of all the gardens and venues #GWA2018 attendees will visit.
Downtown High Life: From the Lurie Garden to the Lakefront
Tuesday, August 14 | 7:00AM - 12:00PM
An award-winning and influential 3-acre rooftop garden surrounded by skyscrapers and open sky, planted with sweeping combinations of perennials following a plan by Piet Oudolf. Sustainably maintained with no pesticides or fertilizer, and little watering.
The McCormick Place Rooftop Farm of Windy City Harvest (a program of Chicago Botanic Garden), is a 20,000-square-foot roof garden on top of convention center, raising organic heirloom vegetables for restaurants, staffed by urban agriculture apprentices and ex-offenders in a job training program.
The varied gardens around this heavily visited museum are designed to provide habitat for birds along the Lake Michigan shoreline and demonstrate plantings suited to various growing conditions. The south terrace features a low-maintenance garden planted with native and drought-tolerant plants. The garden produces flowers throughout the season, making it a great place to watch the bees and butterflies at work.
