Feeding AmericaFranklin Park Conservatory
Franklin Park Conservatory offers unique botanical collections, art exhibitions, plant shows, educational and community outreach programs. The Conservatory features an historic Victorian Palm House built in 1895 and 83,000 square feet of glasshouses and classrooms situated in an 88-acre urban park minutes from downtown Columbus. Franklin Park Conservatory’s Growing to Green program is Columbus’ largest organized effort to promote and provide free resources for community gardening. Growing to Green has assisted in the start-up or renovation of more than 140 community gardens, schools gardens, and neighborhood beautification projects throughout the central Ohio area. The Growing to Green program includes a four-week Community Garden Academy, a statewide Community Gardening Conference, horticultural resources and onsite consultation, demonstration gardens, and information on acquiring land and financial resources to start a garden. Master Gardener Program
The Master Gardener program was established to assist Cooperative Extension in reaching the consumer horticulture audience. Master Gardeners are community volunteers trained by county extension agricultural agents. The program provides interested individuals with extensive training in many phases of gardening. In return, participants dedicate volunteer time to teach other home gardeners.

National Gardening Association’s mission is to promote home, school, and community gardening as a means to renew and sustain the essential connections between people, plants, and the environment. Through our websites (garden.org, kidsgardening.org), NGA reaches millions of gardeners helping educate new gardeners and inspire established gardeners. For more than 30 years, our non-profit has been a leading national provider of K-12, plant-based educational materials. With teachers and community leaders serving as guides, our school and youth gardening programs help children gain knowledge in science, literacy, social studies, nutrition, the environment, and personal skills areas such as leadership, problem-solving, and team building.

Plant a Row • Grow a Row builds on the long-standing tradition of gardeners loving to share their harvest with others. It is a people-helping-people program to assist in feeding the hungry in their own communities. The Grow-A-Row program started in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1986, initiated by Ron and Eunice O’Donovan. This program has been taken up by other Canadian communities such as Edmonton, Alberta, London, Ontario as well as regions in Quebec such as the Laurentians and the Rigaud, Hudson, St. Lazare and Dorion area. Edmonton’s program is spearheaded by the Edmonton Horticultural Society with the support of local businesses. London’s program is under the leadership of London Composts!, a local partnership of businesses, government and non-profit organizations dedicated to raising awareness of the value of composting and compost. In Quebec, the campaign is called Un rang pour ceux qui ont faim and was initiated by La Presse, the television program Fleurs et Jardins, and the Quebec Food Bank Federation. Plant a Row • Grow a Row combines the strength of all of the above initiatives. Through the experience of these communities and their sharing of existing information and communication resources, it is hoped that other places across Canada will establish a Plant a Row • Grow a Row campaign in their own community. — www.growarow.org 877.571.GROW(4769).
