GWA & PAR Participate in “Little Asia” Edible Garden Expansion

On May 7, the Garden Writers Association and Plant a Row for the Hungry joined Mayor Bill Finch (Bridgeport, Conn.) to dedicate the “Little Asia” Community Garden and Athletic Field at Curiale Elementary School as part of the nationwide GRO1000 gardens and green spaces partnership* program. The expansion of an Asianthemed community garden and the renovations to an existing athletic field will improve access to fresh vegetables and fruits and recreational activities for local residents. The garden will serve as a learning laboratory for students at nearby Curiale Elementary School for education about healthy food choices.

Dedication and garden installation activities will be part of the Upton Edible Garden health and wellness initiative. Join the Garden Writers Association, Plant A Row for the Hungry, The Scotts Miracle- Gro Company, The U.S. Conference of Mayors, National Gardening Association and Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden for this exciting garden dedication. Working with the City of Baltimore and ScottsMiracle-Gro’s GRO1000 grant program, the Upton Planning Committee will transform 32 vacant lots in the historic Upton community into raised edible gardening beds to create an educational site where local residents can learn about growing and cooking healthy food.
