GWA Writers Workshop
One of the 6 major goals of the Garden Writers Association is to provide education and career development to update member communications skills and tools through professional development programs and workshops. It’s time to sharpen your tools and strengthen your writing skills with an all-day session led by journalism educator and writing coach, Mary-Kate Mackey. This six-hour, hands-on workshop gives you new strategies to improve your everyday approach to writing. Mary-Kate packs a lot of material into a fast-paced format to help you shape ideas, develop strong, attention-grabbing leads, craft a clean, uncluttered narrative and catch an editor’s interest. The workshop is an expansion of two one-hour sessions she offered at the GWA symposium in Portland. Her reviews were outstanding: "Mary Kate is an excellent speaker; she's enthusiastic, knows her subject, and encourages a lively exchange of ideas between herself and her audience. She is adept at deconstructing and demystifying the dreaded query letter. Her approach turns what's too often considered "junk mail" into something that, as an editor, is worth my time to read."Therese Ciesinski Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, the Writing Workout will equip you to turn ideas into strong, publishable stories.
