2014 GWA Media Awards Recipients

For more than 25 years, the GWA has conducted an annual awards program for talent and products published or aired in the field of garden communications. The purpose of the program is to provide recognition for the vast talents of the GWA membership in the area of writing, photography, graphic design, illustration and electronic media such as radio, television and Internet programming. It is a means of showcasing the many exceptional works created and/or published every year.

This year was the introduction of a new, online awards submission process designed to make awards entries easier, faster and more convenient for participants. We also introduced a new, online awards judging procedure designed to afford judges more time to review awards submissions. Providing more time also allowed GWA to collect judges’ comments and critiques of each entry to assist entrants in developing their future works.

Fourteen judges within the garden communications profession evaluated 262 entries in a variety of categories. From 262 awards entries, 51 works were recognized for individual or collective achievement in 2013. Entries that placed in the top 10% of this non-competitive scoring received the Silver Award of Achievement and became semi-finalists for the Gold Award of Achievement for Best Talent or Best Product. The second stage of judging became competitive. From the 51 Silver Award of Achievement recipients, the judges as a group, subjectively evaluated talent (writing, photography, on-air personality, etc.) and product (book, magazine, calendar, electronic media, etc.) entries for “Best Talent” or “Best Product” awards.

The 2014 GWA Gold Media Awards of Achievement were revealed during the GWA Annual Symposium in Pittsburgh, Pa. Awards Chair Geri Laufer announced the following recipients of the 2014 GWA Media Awards.
