Local Campaign News and PAR Program Donations
Jan. 03

Roberta Sharper (shown in top photo, Howard Park Senior Citizens Garden) is coordinator for the PAR campaign in the Baltimore, Maryland, and surrounding areas. PAR was introduced into the Baltimore area in July 2000 and interested persons donated over 3,000 pounds of produce to soup kitchens, food pantries and to individuals. Because of that effort the program received a grant from "America the Beautiful."

Ms. Sharper says that there are over 150 participants participating in PAR at this time and the list is growing. She is pleased to announce that youth groups have joined the effort to not only feed the hungry and beautify neighborhoods, but to make a difference in the communities in which they live. These groups include:

* The Top Ladies of Distinction,
* Students Helping Other People - Carver High School,
* Living Classrooms,
* Youth Ministry of Shiloh AME Church,
* The Brentwood Village Initiative,
* Betty's 700 and Youth Volunteers of Greater Baltimore
* Maryland Cooperative Extension 4-H and
* a number of adult mentors.

The Carmine Garden 4-H group not only delivered flowers to senior citizens, but played the flute and sang for birthdays.
